What nuances do we take into account when transporting a mattress:
Mattresses come in various shapes and sizes: framed, frameless, with and without springs, as well as custom-made mattresses, non-standard shapes and sizes, so it is very important to figure out how to transport your particular mattress.
What are the risks of incorrect transportation:
Damage or contamination of the upholstery – this will not affect the operation, but the mattress may lose its original appearance;
Damage to the spring block is a more serious risk that may affect the further operation of the mattress;
Filler caking – there is a risk of losing the orthopedic properties of the mattress.
In order not to get an unpleasant experience when transporting a mattress, you must carefully approach the preparation and follow the conditions below.
PACKAGE
If the design allows, remove the mattress pad, wash and dry it.
Before proceeding with transportation, it is necessary to securely pack the mattress so that it does not get dirty or damaged.
For each type of mattress – different materials. But, as a rule, it is cardboard, bubble wrap and stretch. It is very important not to overstretch the mattress.
To add rigidity, we pack some types of mattresses together with the bed frame (orthopedic base).
CARRYING UP THE STAIRS OR USING THE ELEVATOR
Springless mattresses have the ability to twist – this type of mattress is more mobile and will not cause trouble during transportation. It is worth noting that some types of spring mattresses also have the ability to twist, they are initially supplied twisted and vacuum-packed. If you don’t remember exactly how the new mattress was delivered, it’s not worth the risk and twisting the mattress.
It is not allowed to bend and twist round, orthopedic, spring and rigid mattresses.
Many people mistakenly believe that transporting oversized mattresses (massive or non-standard shapes) does not require much effort, but this is not so. Such mattresses may have a different spring structure, mixed filling, etc. Transportation of these mattresses should be given special attention, otherwise, non-compliance with some rules may lead to adverse consequences.
If you do not follow these rules, the life of the mattress is significantly reduced, and there is also a possibility of damage to the springs, which threatens with an unpleasant creak and uncomfortable sleep.
SHIPPING
To transport rolled mattresses, a car will be enough, but for other types of mattresses, a truck or a furniture van will already be required.
Do not place heavy objects on top of the mattress. A dent may appear on the surface and the mattress may not return to its original position.
Place the mattress indoors or in the car along the long edge to reduce the load and reduce the time spent on the edge of the mattress without support.
UNPACKING
Unpack very carefully. If the mattress has been twisted, unpack and give it, if possible, a day to restore its original shape.
